What is the shelf life of Royal Basmati Rice?
Approximately two (2) years if kept at a cool even temperature, such as the refrigerator. Food storage companies offer air tight food containers and nitrogen packets to extract out the air, therefore insects cannot live in the environment. Stored under these conditions the rice can last indefinitely UN-refrigerated:

STORAGE
Store the rice in a cool place below 70 degrees. As with all agriculture products, insects can occur if not properly stored. The refrigerator is the best place to keep the rice, especially during warm temperatures. It is not necessary to transfer the rice to another container, however you may if desired.

STORING FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSE
Place the bag in the freezer for two or three days. Then take the bag out and let it air out all moisture. You can use a food grade storage bucket with nitrogen packets to draw out the oxygen or use a vacuum packer. There are other alternatives, please see food storage companies. (Link here)

SHELF LIFE
Shelf life is about two years. If properly stored rice can be stored indefinitely, please see storage information above.

COOKED RICE
Cooked rice, if not eaten immediately, should be stored in a shallow container, cover tightly, and refrigerated. Cooked rice can be kept in the refrigerator for six days or frozen up to six months. To reheat just add 2 tablespoons of liquid, cover and heat for about 5 minutes on top of the stove or 1 minute on HIGH in the microwave. Fluff with a fork.

FREEZER
You can freeze rice before or after cooking. Just be sure to place in an airtight container to prevent frost from forming on it

It is white, polished, natural rice.

Why do you need to rinse the rice first? Won’t I be rinsing off the vitamins?
Rinsing removes extra starch. We do not enrich the rice, all the vitamins are natural. It is also a good practice to inspect any agriculture product for foreign matter while washing it.

Don’t you lose all of the vitamins when you take off the bran layer?
You do lose fiber or bran, however the iron, protein, Thiamin and Niacin are not lost.

Why is the rice aged?
Our rice is aged and available for sale approximately one year from the time of harvesting. The cooked rice grains will then be separate, more fluffy and firmer in texture.
